I started seeking for a new gas grill late summer 2011. I had complications with ground squirrels obtaining into my grill and tools. All I could uncover at many different enormous boxes had been monster contraptions costing a great number of 100's of $$$. So when the 463722311, catchy model name, showed up on one of the bargain web sites for $94 shipped, I jumped on it.
THE GRILL:
Fundamentally this is a fairly solid gas grill with flaws in style of the support frame and quite a few high-quality difficulties getting a perfect product to the buyer. The standard gas grill was preassembled and it slid into the frame you assembled from the lots of parts working with a effectively-illustrated manual. Each the top and bottom of the firebox had been heavy gauge steel shells. The burners, tent flame shields, upper wire shelf and grill racks are then inserted inside the shells, all exhibiting a been there - performed that before professionalism. All the steel pieces had been coated in porcelain, effortless to clean and durable. I've however to fully master all the subtleties of grilling on the 463722311, but I'm convinced that with the thermometer and three-burners it won't take me long.
Considering that I began working with the 463722311 2-months ago I've grilled steaks, chicken, brats and burgers at least twice every single and the mixture of the three independent burners and the thermometer will allow repeatable control. Some things just have to have quick grilling whereas other need baking. I consistently grill in the center with a single grate, this enables me to move the grilled item more than the flame tent, away from direct flame. I then adjust the outer burners for the interior temperature. Easier to do than clarify.
STRUCTURE:
The frame that supports the firebox lacked simple structural elements to prevent parallelogram collapse on the appropriate side. A easy triangular brace is all that would be needed. Instead, Char-Broil wasted three pieces of wire to exclude a propane tank from being placed beneath the firebox. Any of these three wires could have braced the frame from collapse. I added a steel strap, crude but functional, see photo.
Harm:
The grill had many dents, dings and bends in many of the thin gauge steel components. The worst dent was in the upper firebox shell. It had a substantial dent from the inside out. It is as if somebody took a ball peen hammer with full force struck the shell. The dent fractured the porcelain coating inside and out. In addition, the control panel was heavily scuffed in the correct corner leaving a thumb size location with the paint removed. Anything was properly packaged in cardboard and/or Styrofoam. The outer carton had pretty much no damage when it arrived. None of the packaging materials showed any harm. All this leads me to think that the damage occurred prior to shipment and were packaged that way by Char-Broil.
IGNITOR:
The piezo crystal push button ignitor didn't work. I saw one blue spark in one particular hundred attempts. I utilized the interactive PDF ignition questionnaire and ended up at the 800 number. I known as consumer service and except for the accessory up selling the course of action was smooth and painless. New ignitor will need to arrive in a week. Installing it into the tight area above the gas manifold will be non-trivial.
Immediately after receiving the replacement ignitor which also didn't operate, I figured out the issue. I assumed that the ignitor had two parallel circuits for the side and major burners . . . wrong. The two electrodes are in series. By not installing the side burner, I defeated the ignitor function, I should have grounded the side burner wire to the frame.
Significantly more:
When the 463722311 has no created in tool storage, I had no will need for a side burner, so I converted that compartment into tool storage, see photo. I bought a 1/8" pipe plug to block the gas port for the side burner. The propane tank has a hook and v-notch attachment more than the axle, quick and very simple.
I deducted 2 stars for the defective ignitor, weak structure and all the damage. The 463722311 could have simply earned 5 stars except for those issues. My spell checker likes igniter, but Char-Broil spells it ignitor in their manual?
Edit 2-15-12 I bumped my rating one star.
The grill arrived on time and seemed to be alright. I open the box and almost everything was very well packed, but ideal on the best of everything was the igniter in a dozen pieces. Like the packer knew it was broke and just placed it there. I assembled the grill and a handful of of the pieces were bent but I was in a position to make them perform with no difficulties. I contacted Char-Broil and they are sending out a replacement igniter. In the mean time I will use a lighter to grill.
Thanks
